Printmaking
Techniques available to pursue using our facilities and printing press: Mono-printing, Linocut, woodcut, collagraphs and intaglio
The art of mono-printing is a printmaking technique where a unique, one-of-a-kind print is created from a smooth, non-absorbent surface. The simplicity belies its potential and many great artists including Tracey Emin, Pablo Picasso and Marc Chargall all used the technique – but we can’t guarantee this level of fame to begin!
Linocut and woodcut are really as described, a form of relief printing which involves a design being carved into a surface, and the raised areas are inked and pressed onto paper, leaving the image in relief.
Collagraphs are unique prints made from a textured collage plate, created by gluing diverse materials (like fabric, paper, leaves, string) onto a rigid base (cardboard, wood) and then inking the resulting textured surface.
Intaglio is a printmaking technique where an image is incised, etched, or engraved into a plate.
Printmaking is a wonderfully experimental and exciting form of art, and a huge range of approaches can be taken, from loose and painterly, to clean cut and graphic.
